Bill would end criminalization of homelessness in Hungary
Being homeless in Hungary would no longer be a crime under legislation to be put forward on April 12 by Bernadett Szél, co-leader of the Green Party (LMP), at the request of homeless advocacy group The City is for All, according to a press statement the group issued today.
A law making homelessness a petty offense was passed by the Hungarian Parliament in 2013, and since then the state has spent upwards of HUF 284,460,000 on persecuting homeless people, according to the press statement.
The City is for All is asking people to support the passing of Szélʼs bill to undo the criminalization of homelessness by writing to a member of Parliament using this sample letter as a template.
