White & Case LLP, a New York-based law firm with almost half of its 2,000 lawyers in Europe, said it hired Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP German finance partner, Dr Tom Schorling, increasing its Frankfurt finance team to 29 lawyers. White & Case is a leading global law firm with nearly 2,000 lawyers in 36 offices in 24 countries. Its clients value the breadth and depth of US, English and local law capabilities and rely on the company for their complex cross-border commercial and financial transactions and for international arbitration and litigation. Whether in established or emerging markets, the hallmark of White & Case is the company’s complete dedication to the business priorities and legal needs of our clients. Schorling, who specializes in finance and corporate restructuring, is the third partner since January to join White & Case's Frankfurt finance practice, White & Case said in an e-mailed statement yesterday. The firm has 917 lawyers in Europe. Alan Rockwell, an associate at Linklaters, is joining White & Case's 65-lawyer leveraged finance team, the firm said in the statement. „It's certainly a huge area for us,” James Martin, a London-based White & Case spokesman, said in a telephone interview. „The problem is we are taking market share, but we have to make sure we have the people on the ground.” Gerhard Schmidt, managing partner of Weil Gotshal's German offices, didn't immediately return a phone call to his office. Sarah Peters, a spokeswoman for Linklaters, London's second-largest law firm, said the firm wished Rockwell well. (Bloomberg, whitecase.com)
