Seven injured in pre-match fracas in Bucharest
Before Team Hungary egregiously dropped its World Cup qualifier match to Romania, 3-0, in Bucharest on Friday night, Hungarian fans were involved in scuffling with their Romanian counterparts and police...
According to reports, Hungarian supporters “threw bottles, smoke bombs and firecrackers, [causing] damage to restaurants and bars in a tourist area of the city.”
Two law enforcement officers and five fans – three of which were hospitalized – were injured in the pre-match brouhaha, despite deployment of some 1,900 police at the match itself and riot police stationed at Bucharest’s main railway station.
