Record 4,330 make unauthorized border crossings yesterday

Police apprehended a record 4,330 people who crossed into Hungary without permission yesterday, and more than a quarter of them were children, according to reports.

Attila Kiss of the Hungarian Immigration and Naturalization service said that his office has registered 168,622 asylum applications this year, including 2,547 such applications processed yesterday, according to state news agency MTI. Between midnight and 6 a.m. this morning, 578 asylum applications were recorded, he said.
