Invitel provides Grand Prix ICT, and brings race to viewers

Opinions may be divided on the most memorable moments of the 2014 Pirelli Formula 1 Grand Prix in Hungary, but any sports fan would agree that it was not a contest to miss. The MTVA broadcast of the race reached millions of viewers through the Invitel country-wide home network. Invitel was also the ICT service provider at the race course, offering complete data communication services for the site.

As they did last year, MTVA decided not to use a satellite, but instead went with Invitel’s national optical network. The spectators, racing professionals, sports officials and business partners used a total of 313 designated facilities set up by Invitel, which included 89 audio stations and different Internet services. Instead of the previous Invitel DSL system, this year there were 47 symmetrical internet access points for the press and the race organizers, and all those involved expressed satisfaction with the system.

Invitel has been the partner of Hungaroring Sport Zrt. since 2001, and they have strong experience in dealing with the challenges of the race, so they were able to handle the event without technical problems. Press coverage of the event also went smoothly, thanks to three different advanced WiFi Media Centers, using STM4C, STM1 currents and EOSDH technologies, the press could get fast internet, and they also had access to printing facilities and a total of eight workstations.

“We are happy that the recent period has seen so much good news for Invitel. The latest positive development was Invitel’s broadcasting of Formula One again this year. In 2013 we won the trust of the public media, and we carried out many improvements to ensure we could handle the challenge and responsibility of providing a flawless broadcast,” said Imre Mártha the Chief Operative Director of Invitel. “While the racers on the track endured the drama and challenge of racing in the heavy rain, our team of 32 was working in the background to broadcast the Grand Prix, which was probably the most exciting in the year, for millions of viewers.”
