CEU offers scholarships for Syrian students

Awards

Central European University (CEU) is offering a number of full scholarship packages for Syrian citizens at the masterʼs and doctoral level for the academic year 2016/2017, according to an announcement issued today.

Applications are welcome for all academic areas for the full length of the program, the announcement says, adding that scholarships are awarded based on academic merit. Candidates satisfying the eligibility criteria who submit the CEU Online Application Form by the general CEU application deadline of February 4, 2016, will automatically be considered for the scholarship, the announcement said.

“For 25 years, CEU has been a regional leader in attracting talented scholars from abroad,” said CEU Dean of Students Chrys Margaritidis. “It is now more important than ever to consider the plight of scholars in war-torn countries where continuing their studies is difficult or even impossible. As an academic community, we look forward to welcoming and supporting more Syrian scholars,” he added.

The announcement notes that the university’s international population is one of its foremost strengths. Last year, just over 600 students from nearly 80 countries graduated from the school, joining an international network of over 13,000 alumni, while this yearʼs 672 students come from 96 countries, including countries in conflict such as Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Eritrea and Ukraine.

CEU is a U.S.- and Hungarian-accredited institution of graduate education specializing in the social sciences and humanities, public policy, and business. It seeks to contribute to the development of open societies in Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and emerging democracies worldwide through an educational system rooted in the creative, critical, and comparative examination of ideas. CEU is an advanced center of research and policy analysis that facilitates academic dialogue while preparing its graduates to serve as leaders and scholars.
