Budapest properties still attractive to foreign buyers

Though foreign nationals bought fewer properties in Hungary during the first half of the year than in 2005, Budapest is still a favored destination for Irish, British and Spanish investors, business daily Világgazdaság reported on Friday.

In the first six months of the year, the relevant authority received 1,243 applications from foreigners that wanted to purchase real estate in the capital, 10% more than in the same period of last year, the paper said. A survey of the applications submitted nationwide reveals that the second most popular area is the central Hungarian region near Budapest, where Romanian and German citizens bought the most properties in the given period, Világgazdaság said.
