Spending on film production in Hungary reached HUF 110.1 billion last year, data from the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) show, state news wire MTI reported.

Spending was up from HUF 108.2 bln in 2017, but did not match the HUF 125.4 bln spent in 2016. About 84% of the spending on film production last year was by foreign filmmakers.

A total of 333 films were made in Hungary in 2018, including 245 Hungarian films, 84 foreign films, and four co-productions.

Among the biggest foreign productions was the upcoming latest installment of the Terminator franchise, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, with a budget of HUF 16.9 bln.

The NMHH noted that the tax rebate on film production was raised from 25% to 30% last year.
