Budapest to host annual tourism meeting in 2017

The Hungarian capital has won the right to host the annual Tourist Information Centers (TIC) Expert Meeting of the European Cities Marketing (ECM) organization on October 26-27 next year, the fourth such meeting, the Budapest Festival and Tourism Center (BFTK) told Hungarian news agency MTI on Friday.

European Cities Marketing is a not-for-profit membership association which aims to improve the competitiveness and performance of the leading cities of Europe by providing a platform for convention, leisure and city marketing professionals to exchange knowledge and best practice and widen their network to perform even better, according to the ECM website.

Last year, Hungary hosted a total of 820 international and 1,999 domestic conferences, the news agency reported based on data from the Hungarian Tourism Agencyʼs Convention Bureau.

The number of travelers arriving in the country for the purpose of participating in conferences, business trips or trade fairs exceeded 1.3 million. Such tourists spent a total of 5 million days in Hungary, spending approximately HUF 159 billion through their trips here.
