Budapest airportʼs SkyCourt celebrates fifth anniversary

SkyCourt, the central hall of Terminal 2 in Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport, celebrated the fifth anniversary of its opening this month, operator Budapest Airport announced today in a press release. Since the handover more than 21 million passengers used the hall.
The 24,000 sqm building primarily serves departing passengers, and all bags checked in at T2A and T2B pass through the baggage sorting system installed underneath the building.
The hall commissioned by Budapest Airport was built between 2009 and 2011 within the planned budget of €100 million, the press release noted.
SkyCourt was designed by Ybl-prize-winning architect Zoltán Tima and the team of KÖZTI, while Szeged-based KÉSZ Építőipari Zrt. was the design-and-build contractor.
“During the last five years of operation the building of SkyCourt has proven its outstanding values both for passengers and the airport,” said Stephan Schattney, director of Corporate Unit Technical, in charge of the construction from the very beginning to the inauguration. “Although we have witnessed quite a number of changes in aviation, the building of SkyCourt helped us to cope with new challenges due to its landmark design and versatility,” he added.
