In year-on-year terms, passenger numbers were up by 12.5%, while carriers increased their capacity on existing flights and newly launched regular flights, for example Air Chinaʼs flights to Beijing and Air Transatʼs flights to Toronto also contributed to the numbers, Lammers reportedly said.

By 2018, the operator expects passenger numbers to reach 12 million, which is the airportʼs current threshold capacity, and can only be raised through further investments, MTI reported.

Passenger capacity could rise to 14-15 million through short-term investments, while it could exceed 15 million with a medium-term investment, MTI reported, adding that current plans include building a third terminal at the airport, which may be called Terminal 2C.
