Budapest Mayor István Tarlós told Hungarian news agency MTI that the Slovenian and Hungarian capitals have “outstandingly good relations”. He added that the cities have made important agreements in many areas.

Through the naming of the square, Tarlós believes, further commitment has been expressed towards nurturing a good relationship.

Ksenija Škrilec, the outgoing Slovenian Ambassador for Hungary, said that giving such a name to the square had been initiated by her, because “we still barely know each other, but we have lived next to each other for centuries”.
