Thousands demonstrate against 2015 budget

History

Approximately 2,000 protesters gathered yesterday on Kossuth square to demonstrate against the planned 2015 central budget, which protesters claim hurts Hungary, according to reports. Parliament is expected to pass the budget today.

“The budget for the next year shows exactly what Orbán is about, and it will bring another one million into poverty, along with the already four million living there” organizer Zoltán Varga told the crowd. Varga said he expects the disappearance of social subsidies and the increase of food prices as a result of the budget.

“We have to show Orbán, that the approval of the currently planned budget will cause irreversible harm for the country ... if the central budget is approved, we know what further steps to take,” Varga was quoted as saying.
