State-owned wine-seller hires prize-winning vintner
Károly Áts, who was named Hungary's “Winemaker of the Year” in 2012, will become chief vintner at state-owned wine merchant Tokaj Kereskedőház from April, the Hungarian national asset management company MNV said on Tuesday. Áts is a "personal guarantee" that Tokaj Kereskedőház's wines will continue to increase in quality, MNV said. Under his leadership, the company's winemaking activities are expected to undergo a renewal, opening doors to new markets with the production of higher quality wines while improving profitability, it added. Tokaj Kereskedőház could generate net revenue of HUF 3.4 billion this year, up from HUF 3.2 billion in 2012, said former CEO István Kiss.
