The number of registered businesses in Hungary was 1.31 million at the end of June 2006, 19,724 more than a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Friday.
The number of businesses increased by 17,991 in a year and the number of non-profit organizations rose by 1,951. The number of central budget-funded organizations fell 208, but still numbered 15,130.
The number of registered companies increased 18,218 to 508,087 while the number of self-employed individuals decreased 227 to 710,574. The number of incorporated businesses increased 15,157 to 248,743, and the number of unincorporated businesses rose 3,061 to 259,344.
In the first six months of 2006, 50,163 new businesses were set up, 3,404 more than in the same period a year earlier. The new businesses included 12,112 limited liability companies (Kft), 1,068 more than a year earlier, and 5,567 limited partnerships (Bt), up 187. Among companies, the number of limited liability companies grew the most, increasing 7% to 232,000 in the twelve months to June, while the number of limited partnerships rose less than 1% to 221,000 during the same period. The two forms accounted for almost 90% of all companies. The number of self-employed individuals remained unchanged.
The number of companies listing real estate business and economic services as their main activity continued to grow, accounting for 37.4% of all businesses. The share of companies listing trade and repair work as their main type of activity slipped slightly from 18.1% to 17.9%.
