Hungary's herb exports fall

Hungary's herb exports have fallen by about a quarter, because more herbs are being grown in the EU -- Hungarian herb growers traditional export market -- and increasing competition between growers as well as suppliers, according to József Fogarassy, who heads Hungary's herb products council. More herbs are being collected from uncultivated spaces in other EU countries, reducing Hungarian growers' share of its main export markets, Germany, Austria, Italy and France, Fogarassy said. Herbs are grown on about 25,000 hectares in Hungary, yielding 15,000 tons of poppy, coriander, fennel, mustard and chamomile. (Econews)
