Budapest boosts hotel industry

According to a survey of the Central Statistics Office (KSH) the gross room revenue and the number of guest nights in hotels grew in the January-March period over the same period last year. Hotels operated with a room capacity occupation rate of 46% in the given period. The gross average price of a hotel room was Ft 13,200/night, one room produced a gross revenue of Ft 6,100/night on average. Four and five-star hotels in Budapest had an occupation rate of 53-56%, while three-star hotels at lake Balaton were only 31% busy. The number of guest nights in hotels grew by 9% in Q1, 2005 compared to the same period of last year. The increase was most apparent in Budapest hotels, growth was weaker at lake Balaton or in eastern Hungary.
