Hungaryʼs Parliament voted in December to transform NAV from an independent government body to a central office operating directly under the economy minister.

The number of departments at the authority has been cut from 79 to 39 and four deputy state secretaries will manage the operational work at NAV.

Further growth of Hungaryʼs competitiveness could be threatened if the structure of the tax authority is not modified in such a way as to better support economic growth and allow for more flexibility in adapting to changing economic circumstances, National Economy Minister Mihály Varga said at the event.

Tállai said that NAV must be fully restructured within six months.
