Tobacco concessions winners announced
The winners of applications for licences to sell tobacco under a new state concession have been announced, Zsolt Gyulay, CEO of National Tobacco Trade Nonprofit, which is overseeing the market change, said on public television. Zsolt Gyulay said on m1's Az Este program that decisions had been taken to award 5,415 licences, a little more than the 5,000 expected earlier. Contracts will be signed with the concession winners within 30 days, and they can get their licences shortly thereafter, he added. No applications were received for 1,417 licences for sales in communities with fewer than 2,000 residents, he said. A second round for these will be called in a few days. Legislation approved last September establishes a state monopoly on the retail sale of tobacco products from July 1, 2013. More than 15,600 applications for licences to sell tobacco were received by the February 22 deadline.
