Hungarian oil and gas giant MOL has told the Budapest Business Journal that it has enough capacity to ensure energy supply for the country, despite the war in neighboring Ukraine.

The company says oil is flowing through the Druzhba pipeline without interruption, and other supply sources are available. The vital oil link, also known as the Friendship Pipeline, is the world’s longest. According to the Global Energy Monitor wiki page, it has a capacity of 1,400,000 barrels per day and covers a length of 5,100 km (3,168.99 miles) from Almetyevsk in Tatarstan, Russia, with branches off to Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Germany.

Responding directly to questions from budapestbusinessjournal.com, MOL Group released the following statement.

“MOL is monitoring the events and is prepared to provide energy to the country and the region on an ongoing basis. Currently, the oil supply through the Druzhba pipeline is continuous, but MOL Group has sufficient pipeline capacities to supply landlocked refineries (the Danube Refinery in Hungary, Százhalombatta and the Slovnaft Refinery in Slovakia, Bratislava) through the Adria pipeline as well.”

Adria is a crude oil pipeline linking Croatia, Serbia, and Hungary with branch lines to Slovenia and Bosnia Herzegovina. According to Wikipedia, the annual capacity of the Hungarian section is 10 million tonnes of oil per annum.

The Budapest Business Journal is contacting Hungary’s leading companies to gain an understanding of how the war in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia are affecting their business.
