Power Plant Tender Draws Int'l Interest

A tender called in March to build power plants with a combined capacity of up to 1,650 MW in the east of Hungary has attracted interest from China, Egypt, Greece, and Turkey, in addition to Western European companies, the Ministry of Energy Affairs said in a release on its website.
Six applicants have been cleared to participate in the tender to build two combined cycle gas turbine blocks with a capacity of up to 500 MW apiece at the MVM Tisza Power Plant in Tiszaújváros (185 km northeast of Budapest), and six have been approved to bid for the construction of a single CCGT block, with a capacity of up to 650 MW, at the Mátra Power Plant in Visonta (89 km northeast of the capital), the ministry said.
Construction of the plants is expected to take up to three-and-a-half years once the public procurement procedure is closed.
