Parl't to vote on groundwork for commercial accommodation ratings

Parliament

Parliament is expected to vote on the legislation next week laying the foundations for a uniform rating system that would apply to all commercial accommodations in Hungary, the head of the Hungarian Tourism Agency said, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Zoltán Guller said the agency would cover the cost of the rating system rollout from its launch in January 2022 through 2024. The system, which awards accommodations between one and five stars, is used in more than ten countries, he added.

He said the proposed legislation would also expand mandatory data provision rules that apply to commercial accommodations to catering establishments and various tourist attractions.

"Our intent is for the tourism and catering industries to take their direction not from intuition, but on the basis of data, following the example of Western European and American multinationals," he added.
