Lawmakers voted on Monday to extend the effect of government decrees issued by the government under a state of emergency due to the coronavirus crisis, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

MPs decided to extend the effect of the legal provisions until January 1, 2022 with a vote of 112 for, 25 against, and no abstentions.

The provisions had been set to expire 15 days after the start of the fall session of Parliament, on October 5.

According to the justification of the amendment, the primary goal of the government is to protect the life and health of the Hungarian people, as well as to reduce economic damage and preserve jobs. The fight against the pandemic over the last year and a half has proved that the emergency legal framework previously adopted has served these purposes well.

The law says that the government may announce an early end to the state of emergency, before its cancelation deadline.
