Agriculture Minister István Nagy is meeting with his counterparts from Romania, Bulgaria, and Slovakia on Tuesday to discuss extending restrictions on imports of Ukrainian farm products after a European Union ban expires on September 15, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Nagy said in a post on Facebook that the ministers would seek an extension of the EU ban on imports of some Ukrainian farm products to neighboring countries "at least until the end of the year".

"We can only protect farmers' interests by working together," he added.

The EU ban was introduced to mitigate a flood of Ukrainian farm products into neighboring countries after Brussels exempted the products from customs duties and quotas.
