According to the electricity market monitoring report of the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Authority (MEKH), electricity prices continued to rise in August on the European and domestic markets, writes profitline.hu.

According to the agency's statement, the average day-ahead prices in the Hungarian market in August was above EUR 100 and reached EUR 109 per megawatt hour (MWh).

This year's line prices also continued to rise, reaching double the value last August.

Strong demand for coal and natural gas in Asia has pushed up prices, raising electricity expenses.

The increase in quota prices due to significant demand also contributed to the increase in prices, MEKH indicated.
