Domestic electricity consumption increased by 8.2% in May compared to the low level due to the restrictions characterizing the first wave of the coronavirus epidemic in May 2020.

However, the level of demand was still slightly lower than that seen two years earlier, the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Authority (MEKH) said, according to profitline.hu.

According to the announcement, electricity production was 3.7% higher than in May of the previous year. In line with European trends, fossil fuel production expanded, gas-fired power plants increased performance by 50%, and lignite-fired production was also 12% higher than a year earlier, compared to last year's low level.
