Hungary Was Romania's Main Electricity Partner Last Year

Hungary was Romania's main partner in electricity trade in 2022, according to the Romanian economic portal Economica.net, based on January-November data.

Romania has been a net importer of electricity since 2019, and this situation did not change last year.

According to the data of the statistical institute, in the first 11 months of 2022, Romania imported 7.85 terawatt hours (TWh) of electrical energy, while the export was 6.54 TWh, so national consumption exceeded production by 1.3 TWh.

The most significant part of the electricity export, 3.4 TWh, was sent to Hungary, while the most electricity, 5.11 TWh, came to Romania from Bulgaria.

The total traffic between Hungary and Romania was 5.3 TWh.
