Magyar Posta will re-open a number of post offices in January, following "intensive and constructive" talks between its new management and local councils, the state-owned company said on Wednesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Magyar Posta said a detailed agreement had been reached with mayors on how to manage, together, the situation of post offices shuttered earlier to cope with higher energy costs. Talks are ongoing, it added.

Magyar Posta announced late in October that it would temporarily close 366 post offices in 210 settlements to reduce energy consumption.

Not long after the announcement was made, the company got a new chairman-CEO, Barnabás Balczó, who had chaired the company's supervisory board for years.
