The Construction and Transport Affairs Ministry on Thursday announced the appointments of business leaders with experience working for multinationals to the management and supervisory boards of state-owned railway companies MÁV and MÁV-Start and bus company Volánbusz.

The ministry said the positions of chairman and CEO would be separated at MÁV, MÁV-Start, and Volánbusz "in line with international standards", while the makeup of the companies' management and supervisory boards would reflect the "knowledge and market-based approach gained in practice at the head of multinational companies" in addition to "experience in state administration".

István Lepsényi, who earlier headed Magyar Suzuki and Knorr-Bremse Fékrendszerek, will chair MÁV's board, while Zsolt Barna, the CEO of hauler Waberer's International, will head the board of passenger business MAV-Start. József Vida, a banker, will chair the board of Volánbusz.

The appointments will be effective from May 1.
