Wizz Air Books EUR 105.4 mln Loss

Transport

Hungarian low-fare carrier Wizz Air booked a EUR 105.4 million after-tax loss in the third quarter of its business year, which started on April 1, according to an earnings report published this week.

Revenue climbed 16.8% to EUR 1.065 billion from the same period a year earlier. Total operating costs rose at about the same clip to EUR 1.245 bln. The operating loss was mitigated by a EUR 61.9 mln net financial gain.

Wizz Air's passenger numbers increased 22.1% to 15,129,491. Revenue per available seat-kilometer decreased by 8% because of capacity growth and redeployment of Israel traffic.

"We remain committed to effective cost management, utilization of assets and productivity, all of which are paramount in the coming periods, and we are confident in our ability to manage these factors," CEO József Váradi said.
