Serbia Retail Sales Fall in August

Serbia's retail sales decreased by a real 1.5% year-on-year at constant prices in August, after falling by an annual 3.2% a month earlier, the Central Statistical Office (RBS) said on Friday.

Sales of food, beverages and tobacco fell 2.3% (vs.-4.1% in July) and decreased of non-food products by 1.2% (vs.-2.2). On the other hand, sales of automotive fuels grew 0.3% (vs. -1.4%).

Month-on-month, retail sales rose by 0.5% in August after rising 5.2% in July.

At current prices, retail sales added 8.3% on the year and were 1.5% higher on the month. A separate report from the Belgrade-based statistics agency showed that Serbia's industrial production increased by 5.8% year-on-year in August, after expanding by an annual 2.7% in July.

Seasonally adjusted data for August compared to July show a 1.9% rise in industrial production, with a 1.2% increase in manufacturing.
