Poland's Retail Sales Fall in December

Retail sales in Poland decreased 2.3% year-on-year in December, following a 0.3% decrease in the previous month, figures from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) showed on Monday.

Retail sales fell for solid, liquid & gaseous fuels (-6.4%), food, beverages & tobacco (-3.6%), and furniture & household appliances (-11%).

Sales also decreased for textiles, clothing & footwear by 4.1%, and for newspapers & books by 8.3%, and others by 6.4%.

Trade for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics & orthopedic equipment rose 2.2%, but slowed from the previous month (4.1%).

On a monthly basis, retail sales decreased 2.8% in December, following an 11% surge in November. In the whole year of 2023, retail sales decreased 2.7% compared to a growth of 5.0% in 2022, data showed.
