Estonia Retail Sales Continue to Fall in January

Estonian retail trade fell by 6.7% year-on-year in January, further slipping from a 5.4% drop in the previous month, data from the Tallinn-based Statistics Estonia (SE) showed on Monday.

Sales have been falling since September 2022.

Among stores selling manufactured goods, turnover decreased the most, by 27%, in stores selling via mail order or the internet, the statistics agency said. Retailers supplying hardware, building supplies, appliances, and household items saw a 20% decrease in turnover.

There was a 9.0% decrease in sales of textiles, clothing and footwear. On a monthly basis, retail trade slumped 21.7% in January, following a downwardly revised 11.1% fall in the previous month.
