Bulgaria Retail Sales Growth Marginally on Month in September
Retail sales in Bulgaria flattened year-on-year in September, the weakest performance since April, and following a 0.1% rise in August, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a statement on Friday.
Trade dropped for non-food products (-3.3% vs -2.8% in August), particularly textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (-15%). In addition, sales slowed for food, beverages & tobacco (4.4% vs 5.6%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade grew 0.1%, rebounding from an upwardly revised 0.2% drop in August.
Separately, the Sofia-based institute said that industrial production in Bulgaria declined 11.5% yearly in September following a 9.7% fall in the previous month.
It was the ninth consecutive month of contractions. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output fell by 2.7% in September, following a downwardly revised 0.8% increase in August.
