Hungary's Competition Office (GVH) on Friday announced a probe of the local market for COVID antigen rapid diagnostic tests on suspicion of distortion, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

GVH said market feedback suggests advertising for such tests "may exaggerate performance as defined by the manufacturer", distorting the market.

The competition office has an initial deadline of one month to complete the probe and present a report.

Hungary's government recently started allowing retailers that aren't licensed pharmacies to sell COVID rapid tests. The measure was taken on a GVH recommendation to boost competition in the market segment.
