300,000 Guest Nights Over March 15 Holiday Weekend

Guest nights at tourism accommodation in Hungary reached 300,000 over the three-day weekend for the March 15 national holiday, the Hungarian Tourism Agency said, according to hirado.hu.

Domestic travelers accounted for 190,000 of those guest nights and foreign visitors for 115,000, according to figures from the National Tourism Data Service Center (NTAK).

Guest nights in the capital were close to 100,000. Foreigners accounted for more than 80% of bookings there, with visitors from the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain making the most reservations.

Bookings by domestic travelers made up 84% of the close to 210,000 guest nights at other destinations around the country. The most popular places to visit over the long weekend were the spa towns of Hévíz (190 km southwest of Budapest), Hajdúszoboszló (205 km west), Zalakaros (200 km southwest) and Bük (200 km west).

The revenue of tourism accommodation came to HUF 6.5 billion over the holiday weekend, up 14% from a week ear lier.
