Lidl Magyarország sells over 30 mln bottles of local wine

Lidl Magyarország sold 30.1 million bottles of Hungarian wine last year, 1.6 million more than in 2020 to reach a new record, the German-owned discount chain said on Wednesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Lidl Magyarország sold HUF 7.8 billion of Hungarian wine abroad, and the company remained Hungary's biggest exporter of bottled wine, accounting for 36% of the total.

The company exported 184 Hungarian wines to 15 countries last year, selling the most in the United Kingdom. Sales were also strong in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Poland.

The most popular wines were szürkebarát, királyleányka, Egri Bikavér, Tokaji Furmint, and Irsai Oliver.

Lidl Magyarország's domestic sales of local wine rose 10% to 14.5 million bottles last year.
