Budapest bike-sharing scheme to expand

Budapest's MOL Bubi bike-sharing scheme, operated by the Budapest Public Transport Center (BKK) with the support of Hungarian oil and gas company MOL, will be expanded by 900 bicycles and 75 docking stations, BKK CEO Katalin Walter said on Monday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
The first 350 bicycles will be delivered in the second half of the year, Walter said.
At present, there are 1,560 bicycles in the Bubi fleet and 75 docking stations.
Some 126,000 people are registered to use Bubi, with 12,000 new users added in April alone, Walter said. The bicycles are used over 5,700 times a day.
Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony said the capital's District VIII is financing five new docking stations.
District VIII mayor András Pikó said city developments are being "tailored to people's needs" and noted the importance of supporting travel by cycle.
