József Ujhelyi was appointed Chief Flight Operations Officer at Hungarian low-fare airline Wizz Air, reporting directly to Chief Operations Officer Diederik Pen, according to a press statement issued today.

Ujhelyi joined Wizz Air in 2004 as Head of Purchasing and Commercial Partners, and has since been heading various commercial departments in the organization over the past 12 years, achieving the position of Head of Airport Development in 2012, according to the statement.

Prior to joining Wizz Air, Ujhelyi, gained commercial and management career experience at former national carrier Malév Hungarian Airlines and at Procter & Gamble. Ujhelyi holds a diploma in Traffic and Transportation Engineering from Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

“József has been with the airline since the start and over the years has gained profound expertise and knowledge of the industry,” József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air, commented on the promotion. “This, once again, is a perfect example of WIZZ’s success formula where smart and hard work, commitment and dedication result in career progression into senior management,” Váradi added.
