The Hungarian real estate market is getting greener, real estate firm CBRE says in a report sent to the Budapest Business Journal today. One-quarter of modern office buildings in Budapest have been granted sustainability evaluation certification, while even among the older office buildings a growing number are applying newer, more sustainable technologies, the report finds.

Almost all new real estate entrants in the Hungarian market offer architectural and environmental management solutions to their future tenants, CBRE says.

The industry, furthermore, is becoming more committed to sustainability. Today, every fourth office building has a BREEAM or LEED certification, meaning Budapest has 56 buildings with about 830,000 sqm of office area that provide a sustainable working environment for employees and environment alike, CBRE says.

The vast majority of newly built office buildings or those under construction are certified green, CBRE says.

As far as areas pre-leased prior to construction are concerned, the share of green-rated sites in Budapest is 91%.

CBRE’s Green Week initiative

CBRE’s Green Week campaign, organized each year since 2013, aims to raise awareness of the global real estate industry about social responsibility towards the environment by reaching its more than 70,000 employees, as well as its customers.

In the campaign, “green aspects” come into the forefront both in the employeesʼ own work and in their relations with their clients. CBREʼs Green Week initiative also draws attention to the well-being of the staff; that their mental and physical health must be a priority for every company.
