Orbán: 'Immigration needs to be stopped'

Visits

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán yesterday criticized the flow of economic immigrants to Europe, according to reports. “We don’t want a significant majority having different cultural facets and backgrounds among us. We would like to preserve Hungary as Hungary,” the prime minister was quoted as saying by Index.hu.

Commenting on the occasion of the memorial march for the terror victims in Paris, the prime minister said: “Economic immigration to Europe is bad, and one should not regard it as a useful thing, as it brings trouble and peril for Europeans. Therefore, immigration needs to be stopped. This is the Hungarian point of view.”

Although  Orbán said he believes that political refugees can always “find shelter” in Hungary, he added: “It needs to be clarified, that as long as I am the prime minister and this government rules the country, Hungary will not become a favored destination of immigrants.”
