V4 foreign ministers meet today to discuss Brexit

The foreign ministers of the Visegrad Four countries are scheduled to meet today in Prague to discuss the United Kingdom’s plan to leave the European Union after the passage of the Brexit referendum Thursday.
The ministers of the V4 countries – Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland – will also be joined by the German foreign minister, according to an announcement by Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s minister of foreign affairs and trade. After the V4 meeting, foreign ministers of countries that joined the EU during enlargement will meet in Warsaw, at the invitation of the Polish foreign minister, Szijjártó added, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.
Given the regionʼs strong economic ties with the U.K., and the hundreds of thousands of people from this part of Europe who work and live in Britain, Central Europe wants a place at the table during the talks on the U.K.ʼs exit from the EU, Szijjártó said.
The Hungarian government is committed to defending the interests of Hungarian citizens working in the U.K., Fidesz Deputy Head Gergely Gulyás said at a press conference on Saturday. “The government wants to see the introduction of a mechanism that would ‘automatically’ renew the working permits of Hungarian nationals in Britain after it leaves the EU,” Gulyás said, according to MTI.
