Szijjártó: Hungary ‘cannot be toyed with’

The Hungarian government said at the beginning of the “migration crisis” that “Hungary cannot be toyed with”, Hungary’s foreign minister Péter Szijjártó reiterated yesterday at ruling Fidesz party’s congress, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

Szijjártó said Hungary has received “undeserved attacks, morbid accusations and unfair criticism” recently, while it proved during “probably the most crucial challenge of the European Union’s history” that the protection of external borders is possible.
“We have fought back these attacks” Szijjártó said according to MTI, adding that “those who toy with us, we have fought back and will fight back”. The minister said this is a new approach as earlier foreign policy would have “hidden under the table” in such attacks, MTI reported.
He promised to maintain a foreign policy that prevents Hungary from looking like the Keleti Railway Station, probably referring to the period at the end of summer, when thousands of refugees waited to board trains bound for Germany.
