A “sweeping majority”, in other words the one million Hungarians who sent back the national consultation questionnaires of which eight million were sent out, agrees with the government’s policy regarding immigrants, government spokesperson Zoltán Kovács said today at a press conference.

He said that respondents who rejected the government’s view on the matter are “insignificant”, and noted that this national consultation was the second most answered consultation in Hungary’s history with 1,000,254 questionnaires being sent back. What this means, however, is that approximately 7 million voters chose not to be involved in the national consultation.

Kovács noted that 70% of respondents found the spread of terrorism significant in relation to their lives, however, only 39.9% saw a terrorist attack on Hungary as a serious possibility, while 56% considered a terrorist attack somewhat possible, as such, according to Kovács, Hungarians feel safe.

Some 61% of the one million respondents saw a “correlation” between the spread of terrorism and “Brussels’ poorly handled immigration policy”, while 27.8% “somewhat agree” and 11.1% do not.

Some 97% felt the increase of “economic migrants” in Hungary as “real”, and 72.7% were concerned about their jobs and saw immigrants as threatening their livelihood.

Some 87.9% agreed that “illegal immigrants” should be taken into custody, while 82.7% said that “economic immigrants” should contribute to the taxation system in Hungary.

Kovács believes that it is “self-explanatory” that 92.9% respondents would support Hungarian families over immigrants.
