Soros: Orbán’s actions ‘undermine’ European values
The actions of Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán “undermine” European values, Hungary-born business magnate George Soros said Friday, adding that a six-point plan published by the Soros foundation is intended to “uphold European values”, according to reports.
Sorosʼs remarks were made in response to criticism by Orbán, who said in a speech at the Idők Jelei conference held in Budapest Friday that a few, well-organized activist leaders who think beyond nation states and are moving large funds might be be background actors behind current events. Implying Soros might have something to do with orchestrating the way the refugee crisis is panning out, Orbán said on Friday: “If you think about the Soros Foundation now, it is not gratuitous.”
In his response, Soros pointed out his differences with the attitude of the prime minister.
“His [Orbánʼs] plan treats the protection of national borders as the objective and the refugees as an obstacle,” Soros said in a statement according to Bloomberg Business. “Our plan treats the protection of refugees as the objective and national borders as the obstacle,” Bloomberg Business added.
