Some 200,000 refugees cross Serbia

Serbian officials estimate that more than 200,000 refugees have passed through the country this year, Rados Djurovic, executive director and lawyer at Asylum Protection Center in Serbia, told Serbian state television, according to Hungarian online daily Origo.hu.

The director said that although the number of refugees entering the country has decreased from a daily 4,000-5,000 to approximately 1,000, he believes that another great wave of refugees is expected to arrive, and Serbia is not prepared for them.

The majority of refugees used to arrive to Hungary through Serbia, but since the Hungarian government built a fence along the entire length of the Serbian border and stricter border laws came into effect on September 15, refugees have been entering Hungary through Croatia, by first passing through Serbia. Hungary has seen thousands of refugees arrive in the country on a daily basis.
