Slovak PM: Respect Hungary’s decisions on immigrants
Decisions made by Hungary need to be respected due to the great pressure that the influx of migrants has put on the country, Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robet Fico (pictured) reportedly said yesterday after a government meeting in Ruzomberok.
The leader noted that Slovakia is against the quota system previously proposed by the EU to handle the issue of immigrants, adding that it is not judging Hungary for suspending the take back of migrants from other countries.
Hungarian news reports said late Tuesday that Hungary suspended the Dublin III Regulation, under which an EU country through which an illegal immigrant entered the union must take back the migrants if found in any other EU country. After receiving wide international criticism for the reported measure on Tuesday night, it was reported yesterday that Hungary did not in fact suspend the regulation, but asked Austria for patience prior to sending immigrants back to Hungary.
Fico reportedly added, that in order to solve the issue of refugees, a dialogue must be initiated with Hungary, where “feelings are not accepted”. He said that in order to solve the problem, Slovakia might accept some migrants, however such distribution of migrants should happen voluntarily.
