An investigation by vs.hu revealed that information delivered by government-friendly consultant firm Századvég as part of a HUF 4 billion contract with the government contains thousands of pages of data that is “professionally nonsense, completely irrelevant, and in many cases could be produced with the help of data analysis software in seconds”, the online news portal reported yesterday.

Századvég responded in a statement sent to state-owned news agency MTI yesterday, saying that several of vs.huʼs claims are false and that it would start a libel suit against the portal.

In February, after a three year legal dispute, vs.hu journalist Hajnalka Joó obtained 77,000 pages of documents provided by Századvég under the government contract, vs.hu reported.

According to news portal 444.hu, the files supplied by the government on seven pen drives are in an unsearchable, unprintable format, which made them difficult to analyze.

The journalist was able to acquire the files of studies carried out by Századvég and commissioned by the Hungarian government between 2012-2014 under a suit she won in November, according to reports.
