Refugees riot at Serbian border

A riot began late this afternoon after refugees who had grown impatient on the Serbian side of the border, tore down a a gate on the fence in an attempt to enter Hungary en masse, Hungarian online daily Index.hu reported.

The refugees are unable to enter Hungary as three rows of riot police are blocking their way. As a result, refugees began throwing stones at the Hungarian Police from the Serbian side of the fence, while the Hungarian Police are trying to halt the riot with water cannons and tear gas, index.hu said.
According to the online portal there are some injured refugees, who are bleeding and are receiving medical attention from Serbian ambulances, while the Serbian Police are at the scene, observing the happenings.
Hungary’s foreign minister Péter Szijjártó asked his Serbian counterpart to give an order to the Serbian Police to take action regarding the rioting refugees, the foreign minister told state-owned all news channel M1 this afternoon.
Index.hu reported that a group of Serbian police officers approached the dismantled gate and are trying to convince the rioting refugees to calm down.
