Hundreds flee as refugee standoff at Bicske continues
An estimated 300 refugees escaped the train station at Bicske today, as others remained and continued a standoff with police, MTI reported. Refugees spent the night on the train, which stopped in Bicske yesterday, interrupting its journey to Sopron, Hungarian news agency MTI reported. The refugees have refused to leave the train to be taken to the nearby refugee facility.

The 300 refugees who fled followed the tracks and ran westbound towards Győr, while another group of about 50 refugees ran east towards Budapest, according to reports. The remaining refugees are holding out in protest on the train and surrounding platform and are refusing to be transported to the refugee reception area in Bicske.
When the train stopped at Bicske yesterday, authorities attempted to force refugees to get off so they could be registered at the nearby reception area, according to state news agency MTI. Scuffles broke out between refugees and police following refugeesʼ refusal to comply with the order.
Yesterday MAV stopped all international trains leaving Budapest and heading to Western Europe. Passengers are being asked to transfer at a station near the border, and passport checks are also in effect to reportedly weed out refugees.
